Academy of Chiropractic Personal Injury & Primary Spine Care Program

Quickie Consult 183

From the Desk of Dr. Mark Studin
Academy of Chiropractic
Preamble: Many of the issues I bring to you are very small, yet each issue is just that, an issue. If you take care of the small issues, then you will be able to build and more importantly, focus on the bigger issues...a larger practice and more family time.

“Illegitimi Non Carborundum”

“Illegitimi non carborundum” is a terse Latin saying that means, "Don't let the bastards grind you down.”

My practice is down and I worked so hard to build it.
“Illegitimi non carborundum.”

My collections are so bad this month.
“Illegitimi non carborundum.”

My front desk staff has re-appointed many people.
“Illegitimi non carborundum.”

The insurance department is months behind.
“Illegitimi non carborundum.”

The lawyer will not return my phone calls.
“Illegitimi non carborundum.”

The lawyer will still not return my phone calls.
“Illegitimi non carborundum.”

The insurance company just wrongly denied another claim.
“Illegitimi non carborundum.”

The recall log is not worked on.
“Illegitimi non carborundum.”

My staff spends more time on personal calls than the office.
“Illegitimi non carborundum.”

Patients do not follow their care plans.
“Illegitimi non carborundum.”

My bills are higher than my income.
“Illegitimi non carborundum.”

Why does the doctor 3 blocks away have a bigger practice?
“Illegitimi non carborundum.”

Why are the numbers so low?
“Illegitimi non carborundum.”

Why can’t I create 3 more hours in a day?
“Illegitimi non carborundum.”

Why am I being retrospectively audited?
“Illegitimi non carborundum.”

By now you should have gotten the picture. The saying, “Illegitimi non carborundum,” is so pertinent because you are in control of the “bastards” and they can’t get you down unless you give them permission. You are also in control of every one of the issues that appear to get you down. Don’t concern yourself about changing what you feel; change what you see, do and choose and very quickly you will change how you feel.

“Eadem esse debes mutatio quam in universo mundo videre vis.” The literal translation is, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world,” or in Mark’s translation, “You are in control.” If you don’t like something about your staff, your practice, your predicament in life, change it. There is not one thing in the list above that is not in your full control and you have something very powerful to change it all, the consultations. In those words are the answers to most every issue in practice and if you can’t find them, call me.

“Eadem esse debes mutatio quam in universo mundo videre vis.”
