“Are you the CAUSE of getting retrospectively audited by the carriers?”
The answer is usually, “YES!” Today, I critiqued an initial evaluation report by a doctor. In the report, he included an x-ray analysis. Many of you include the same, but there is a huge problem. This is an INITIAL EVALUATION!!!! Isn’t the initial evaluation the place to take a complete history and perform an examination and THEN order tests??? That includes x-rays!
What this doctor did was to perform the test without an order or an evaluation and then include the x-ray findings as part of the initial evaluation. If I was an auditor, I would have a field day with this doctor. An initial evaluation is just that...the beginning of everything you do with a blueprint of the future care, including tests. If you have no orders, you have no right to have any tests done, including your own x-rays!
It is this type of doctor that will blame the world when an insurance retrospective audit costs him over $100,000 between paybacks and legal fees. He will blame everyone but himself! It is this reason that I urge everyone to get an independent audit. Call Dr. Schonfeld at 516-695-7732 today.
