Preamble: Many of the issues I bring to you are very small, yet each issue is just that, an issue. If you take care of the small issues, then you will be able to build and more importantly, focus on the bigger issues...a larger practice and more family time.

“Federally Required Fraud and Abuse Training”

The Federal Government now requires you to participate in a formal training session if you take any federal funds. This is a new program and you are mandated to complete this training by December 31, 2009. The tracking of training needs to be maintained for 10 years and made available upon request. To download the training information and paperwork, go to an Aetna site that offers it for FREE:

Satisfy your Medicare Fraud and Abuse Training on AetnaEducation.com Today!

Dear Physician, Health Care Professional and Office Staff:

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires all providers to take Medicare fraud, waste and abuse (FWA) training on an annual basis.

You can satisfy this requirement by taking a course at www.AetnaEducation.com at no charge.

Please Note:

  • CMS regulation requires this FWA training to be completed by December 31, 2009.
  • This FWA training must be completed by all individuals (including pharmacists and administrative staff) involved in the administration and delivery of Medicare Advantage and Part D prescription drug benefits.

How to enroll and take this CMS-required course:

  1. Log in or register at www.AetnaEducation.com
  2. Select “Course Catalog” then “Medicare Advantage Plans”
  3. Choose “Medicare Fraud, Waste and Abuse Compliance” course

If you already completed FWA training offered by another Medicare Advantage organization or Part D Plan Sponsor, you do not need to complete the Aetna FWA training or provide a completion attestation, which may have been required by other organizations.

We will audit to confirm your compliance with this CMS requirement. As part of the audit process, we may ask that you provide evidence that FWA training materials were provided and FWA training was completed by all physicians, health care professionals and administrative staff.

This is a FEDERAL LAW and should not be overlooked.
