“Covid-19 Vaccines and Marketing”

This consultation is about marketing, not about your life choice of getting vaccinated. That is a personal decision, that only can make for yourself, your family and your practice. I support whatever you do without judgement.

Many have asked me if I got vaccinated for Covid-19, so let's just get that out of the way; YES. I got the Pfizer vaccine and at the same time, contracted Covid that almost killed me post-kidney surgery when my oxygen level would not go above 82 for 6 hours as a result of the virus. Myself and most Covid survivors I have spoken with are passionate about everyone living and not being part of our label, "The Long-Haulers of Post-Covid." But that is me, and you have to do what you feel best for you and your family. AND...Please do not make this a political issue, because it is not... Follow the science in making your decision.

Over the past few months, I have been surveying patients nationally and mask wearing, disinfecting and social distancing, especially in the reception/waiting room are critical to patient retention. State licensure boards are being overrun with patient complaints about doctors allowing others in the waiting room not wearing masks, and not formally blocking off seating in the room to allow 6' of distancing. You do not want to find yourself being made an example from the licensure board; it can cost you your license for not following state guidelines. 

Short of that, patients nationally are now refusing to go to any doctor's office where the doctor and staff are not vaccinated. It has created a "roadblock" for them to use you. Patients do not understand the vaccine does not protect them, it only protects the person getting the vaccine. They don't care because most of our society knows someone who has gotten severely ill, or has died, and realize that science does not have all the answers yet. They are erring on the side of caution.   

When someone calls me for a referral, one question asked most of the time, "do you know if the doctor and their staff has gotten vaccinated?" Early on in Covid, many doctors refused to wear a mask, and my research revealed that it destroyed many practices because patients refused to use that doctor. One doctor in Missouri, a very conservative state reported to me that because of many other DC's in his town's political beliefs, they refused to wear a mask and he was an "outlier" and followed strict Covid protocols. As a result, his office was flooded with the patients of the other doctors, and he had his best year in practiced over his 22 year span.

You have to understand your marketplace and should you have decided to get the vaccine, I would strongly consider marketing to your community that you and your staff follow strict Covid safety protocols AND are fully vaccinated.

Again, business should not guide your decision whether to get vaccinated or not; science should, but if you have decided to get the vaccine... Then you should consider sharing that with all your referral sources and your community in signage in your office, a letter campaign to past and current patients, and an email notice to all referral sources.
