Preamble: many of these issues are small, yet each issue is just that… an issue. If you take care of the small issues, then the larger issues often take care of themselves and you can focus on the larger issues… a larger, more profitable practice and more family time.

“We Treat Based Upon Policy Limits”

Bye-Bye License, it’s been good to know Ya!!!!

“Transparency shall set you free” Mark Studin 2018

I presented to approximately 50 lawyers recently, and there were a few sponsoring well-trained chiropractors in the room. At the end, during the concluding question and answer period, a lawyer asked how do we handle policy limits? As many of you know, carriers are seeking auto policy with $15,000 medical limits to lower their exposure to you!! This is already a national trend.

I thought this was a”softball” type question and answer, so I wanted to help one of the doctors appear “wise beyond his years” and handed the microphone over to him. Did you ever have one of those moments you wanted to back in time? This was one of them, and I wanted to find a muzzle quickly… His answer was “we treat to policy limits as we are aware of your issues and want to resolve them for you.”

Let me be VERY CLEAR: we never treat to policy limits. We treat based upon the needs of the patient.PERIOD. FINITO… DONE.

Any other answer is a licensure violation, and you would deserve to lose your license. In fact, I would give testimony to support you losing your license.

Here is the rest of the answer, We treat based upon the needs of the patient. However we understand your policy limits and the majority of our patients are treated well-within those limits including an MRI if necessary.

That is the only answer you can give, short of compromising your license.
