Preamble: many of these issues are small, yet each issue is just that… an issue. If you take care of the small issues, then the larger issues often take care of themselves and you can focus on the larger issues… a larger, more profitable practice and more family time.

“Can you Star on Broadway?”

That is the arbiter for success in your practice

“I looked at me 1-2 years ago and people can change… because I wanted to” Mark Studin 2018

This past week I was in New York City and saw Hello Dolly on Broadway. The show was a revival from years gone by and we went because it got wonderful reviews and I enjoy going to live theatre. However, somewhere in the middle of the play I was swept away by the brilliance of the performers, the power of the storyline and the totality of the theater experience. If you have ever been to a Broadway production in New York City you will fully understand what I just shared with you as theater in NY is unparalleled perhaps anywhere in the world.

It fully amazed me at the level of precision each performer displayed, inclusive of lines, singing and dancing. I also had to remind myself that these performers put on 10 shows a week and can only keep their jobs if they maintain their level of excellence. It just so happens that this was the first Broadway show that I have attended where there were multiple standing ovations throughout the performance (and I have been to the countless amount of shows on Broadway throughout my life). This got me to think of your practice.

I recall being in chiropractic College in the 1970s and realized that I had to do a report of findings and it had to be perfect. I remember running miles and miles through Ally Pond Park in Queens, while verbally doing my report findings to the birds, bees and squirrels until it was perfect. I also recall my first patients in private practice giving the exact same report of findings and guess what… It was the exactly the same as with the birds, bees and squirrels…PERFECT!!!!

This is a decision you must make. Do you want your practice to be at a high school level where everyone has learned their lines and can sing and dance exactly as detailed in the script to the adoration of your friends and family and a few strangers who think you have what it takes to make it at the next level? Or… Do you want to be at the level of local theater where you are vying for the leading role in a production that will be seen by hundreds in your community, where they will say you are good enough to make it to Broadway. Or… Do you want to be the one starring on Broadway and have that level of excellence that is unparalleled by most of the world where they say you are the standard of the world.

I choose for you to be the latter, where your community, patients and profession sees you as the best of the best. This takes practice, practice, practice and more practice as well as coaching and classwork no different than those performed on Broadway and we all have one thing in common: sacrifice!

We have all sacrificed time away from family, time away from your practice, time away from your social life and a significant amount of resources ($) to make it to the top. In addition, there is one more item that is required by me: to speak the truth no matter the cost. I can tell you unequivocally that I have refused to compromise on my beliefs no matter the environment and I have lived by one credo taught to me by my mentor: if I’m in a room with 1 million people and I know I am right and the other 999,999 wrong, I am in the majority. In chiropractic you will find there are many circles in and out of our profession who will not believe what you say and challenge you on those beliefs. It is your responsibility to be prepared and understand the physiology, research and statistics backed up with credentials that will enable you to be on top and more importantly… To stay there.

Lastly, the stage at the Shubert Theatre in NYC…PERFECT. Not a spec of dirt, the props, background and costumes…PERFECT!!! What is your office like? The high school auditorium with gum on the seats and a budget that will get them the barest of basics, local theatre with the “threadbare” seats because they can’t afford to re-upholster them OR…a professional production? Are your walls displaying your diplomas? Have you upgraded all or even some of your diplomas? If you want to have the reputation that garners your referral sources running after you, you have to not only be the part… but look the part…Just like Broadway!

It never ceases to amaze me when I speak to a new client who has yet to read the information or take any courses or an existing client who has yet to engage versus those who have read the consultations and more so those who have also taken the coursework. I can tell instantly who has made a commitment to be the very best and so can your referral sources; the difference is as striking as the results are in your practice with patient care and referrals.

If you have a choice to come to New York and see me versus going to a Broadway show if you haven’t yet… go to Broadway!

Respectfully,
