Preamble: many of these issues are small, yet each issue is just that… an issue. If you take care of the small issues, then the larger issues often take care of themselves and you can focus on the larger issues… a larger, more profitable practice and more family time.
“Become Trial Experienced”
How to be experienced in trial when you never testified
“Experience + credentials = WIN!” Mark Studin 2017
A doctor in Virginia shared with me that a lawyer wanted to know if he had trial experience. The answer was no, so the lawyer offered the following suggestion; “go to the courtroom and attend as a visitor in the courtroom other trials. After doing many trials, I think that is an outstanding recommendation.
First, when you attend the trial with other experts, you are going to realize that you know more than most other doctors. In fact, if you have taken the courses and are part of the Trauma Team, you will know more than 99% of everyone else in the profession. I can attest to that after reading many transcripts, getting feedback from trail lawyers and teaching both DC’s and MD’s… You will know more.
To learn where and when, simply Google “court docket [your county and state] and it should tell you the location, date, time and reason [personal injury]. It may take a little “massaging” of the site to get the information, but it took me under 2 minutes to find what I needed in the Suffolk County, New York Court System to get the full schedule needed.
This is a worthwhile investment of your time and will give you the needed experience and confidence to go to trial and well as sharing with your local attorneys that you have attended many trials and that with your CV and knowledge base makes it an easy exercise for you no matter your experience level.
