Preamble: many of these issues are small, yet each issue is just that… an issue. If you take care of the small issues, then the larger issues often take care of themselves and you can focus on the larger issues… a larger, more profitable practice and more family time.

“The Ol Chiro 1-Step, 2-Step”

I just threw up in my mouth
I might have an aneurysm
I wanted to beat the snot out of this chiropractor
I worry about our profession

“Do you know what you call someone who knows 10% and professes to know 110%? Full of CRAP!!!”  Mark Studin 2017

I just got a phone call from a chiropractor in New Mexico. He said “I have spoken to you before and I might use you in the future, however I need help now.” This was his way of saying I need help now and you are not going to make any money from me. Right away, I knew this was going to be an interesting phone call as I have been around long enough to realize that when someone acknowledges their offering nothing and want something that questionable ethics are involved.

Many people call me and simply say “I am not a client of yours, but I need your help and are you able to help me?” 100% of the time my answer is always… Yes.

The Dr. said “I am testifying on Monday (in 3 days) in court on a complicated case where there are herniated discs and I need to know if you have a sheet of questions with answers that are usually asked so I can memorize them?” He then went on to say “I know there are standard questions and answers and since I only have two days I need to get the concise answers so I can memorize the script.”

Truthfully, it took me time to compose myself so as not to be unprofessional and/or call him names. After a brief pause I said “let me get this straight, you have no training since you graduated chiropractic school (which is 12 years ago, based upon a brief volley of questions from me) other than philosophy and kinesiotaping and you want to be able to answer questions on the myriad of disc herniation types inclusive of being cross examined by the defense on the specific morphology and causality of the disc pathology?” He acknowledged with an excitement in his voice saying that is exactly what he needs.

I then replied to him by saying “you cannot learn MRI disc pathology at the level you are requesting by memorizing questions and answers from the Cliff Notes. If you want to be expert on MRI you have to start with a 25 hour online course, which might be unreasonable by Monday. However, if you want to be conversant on MRI I strongly suggest a three-hour online course of MRI spine interpretation basics.” He said he understands and agrees, however right now he just wants questions and answers because he believes that will get him through the day and that is all he cares about.

This “dick-head” will not only look and sound the fool, he will be hurting chiropractic by being totally uneducated on even the very simple basics and is unwilling to invest three hours of his time to further his career and his profession. I promise you that I shared that sentiment with him.

This is the problem with the chiropractic profession; too many only want the “Cliff Notes “and most are not even willing to invest a minimal amount of time in their careers. It is my best experience that these are the types of doctors that complain the most, the loudest and contribute nothing to the profession other than being part of the problem versus the solution. I am sure you know many of these doctors and I challenge you to try to convert them to understanding what being the best of the best through clinical excellence means and join me in my crusade.

This is the only way up.

Respectfully,
