Preamble: many of these issues are small, yet each issue is just that… an issue. If you take care of the small issues, then the larger issues often take care of themselves and you can focus on the larger issues… a larger, more profitable practice and more family time.

You now have the same problem I do… Relating to your audience.
One of the biggest problems that I have speaking to chiropractors in the field who don’t know me is that I need to work very hard to “dumb it down” and not come off as a “know it all.” This is a result of years of research, study, credentials and not willing to practice in the “ol chiro one step to step” paradigm.
This past weekend I was the keynote speaker at the New Jersey Association for Justice’s private, close – door seminar for their “inner circle” members. The topic was “diffusing deceptive defense rhetoric” and my topic was to be limited to age dating herniated discs. As I was the third speaker lineup interspersed with commentary from both the moderator and the audience I did my best to stay silent during the previous presentations as they were fraught with inconsistencies and very old strategies to undo defense medical examinations.
They were discussing how to overturn improper IME reports and how to get past Low-speed, no damage crashes. The “so-called experts” answers were as follows:
1. To overturn improper IMEs they were quoting ethics language from the organizations they were members of. This is a joke because we are not lawyers and are not bound to any ethical standard. We are bound by the standards of our license.
2. Low-speed, no damage crashes: this is so easy for us as we discussed this at length and is integral to so many of the postdoctoral courses we offer. The experts at the meeting all agreed that it was virtually impossible to get past that argument.
3. Age dating herniated discs: this is so easy for us because we now understand the physiology however, the problem is most of the lawyers still don’t understand the difference between herniated, bulged or protruded discs.
At the last-minute I needed to change my entire presentation to handle all of these issues for the approximately 200 lawyers present who are considered the “cream of the crop” nationally with respect to personal injury.
After my presentation lawyers were literally charging me to be the first to talk to me so they can refer their clients on the spot. When they found that I do not practice they wanted me to testify for the because no one in their sphere understand any of this material.
You understand this material.
The challenge you have is when you talk to returns you are now in the same situation I am and must come across as humble, academic and sincere without saying “how stupid can you be.” The challenge is to bridge the gap in a respectable manner provided you have both the knowledge base and credentials to back up your opinions. Everyone wanted my credentials upfront before engaging in conversation and the moderator when introducing me went to great lengths to share my credentials with the audience. The attorneys also shared with me that the “expert standard” or Voir Dire as the legal term New Jersey is called is getting much more stringent and chiropractor and medical Dr. alike must increase their level of credentials to succeed in today’s personal injury market place.
Lastly, when it comes to Colossus very few attorneys believe it’s real and exists, let alone want to be swayed in their referrals by someone who understands the algorithm. 99.9% of the attorneys in the room only want to know if they can take you to trial. They still don’t get it. To that effect you must read and watch the new “magic language” in the video section of the consultations over and over to be able to understand and then communicate it.
Shortly, there will be more credentials for you to be able to acquire as I am working on many new ones so that together we can keep spiraling upwards in our knowledge base and CVs.
