Preamble: many of these issues are small, yet each issue is just that… an issue. If you take care of the small issues, then the larger issues often take care of themselves and you can focus on the larger issues… a larger, more profitable practice and more family time.

“X-Ray Protocols”

“The stupidest person in the world becomes king when he knows the smartest people in the world” Mark Studin 2017

I received this from Dr. Wiegand yesterday:

Dear Doctors,

When you testify in court and present evidence, don’t give the defense attorney ammunition to discredit you. Every piece of evidence in your records will be scrutinized. Part of the records are the x-ray images. Standard procedures for taking x-rays is to include:

1.      a marker indicating Right or Left
2.      The patient name
3.      date of study and
4.      a scale marking.
Too often all or part of this information is missing from the images submitted for AOMSI processing. When information is missing, that is the target of the defense attorney. I can hear it now, “doctor how can we know the date of the x-ray”, “How do we know this is the correct patient with no name on the x-ray”, “what measurement scale was used to determine AOMSI”. Your Honor, I move to strike this information from the record.

Any time the defense attorney can discredit you or your records, they will.

Don’t put your patient at risk for stupid clerical issues. Please check your submitted films for correct information imprinted on the x-ray. Take care of this now or get burnt and discredited later.
