Preamble: many of these issues are small, yet each issue is just that… an issue. If you take care of the small issues, then the larger issues often take care of themselves and you can focus on the larger issues… a larger, more profitable practice and more family time.

There are always 2 sides to the coin

Part 1
“Today is Like Every Other Day”

Dear Me,

Today is like every other day. I step into life and realize that I will have challenges. Those challenges will test me and make me pause before moving forward. For some, it is dealing with a flawed staff, for others it will be dealing with increasing bills and shrinking income and for others it will be dealing with moral or ethical issues that are weighing heavily on the soul. At times, these challenges seem insurmountable and I ponder them sometimes at 2am or 4am and they stay with me at 7am all too often. Strangely enough, by 10am they don’t seem so bad, but I get to pick them up again by choice and ponder often to the obsessive. My challenges wither me like an old oak and I often see myself as the soft object in the sandstorm bending to the wind.

Today is just like every other day, but… I realize that I have more than armor. I have me. I am here today like every other day with the power to change, the power to withstand the storm and the power to understand that I am in control of everything around me. I can mold my staff or change my staff, I can withstand the bills and change directions with income at any time I choose because I am in control. I can forgive myself for any moral or ethical transgression and move forward, not as a new person, but a better person who is living in my image of me, one I am proud of. I am not afraid to learn from anyone… including me.

I can be a person of faith, it can be in god or myself and some say the two are the same and who am I to challenge because I do not judge, not others or myself. I am committed to being the best me I can. If it takes changes, I not only welcome them, I look for them.

Today is like every other day and I am going to make a difference in me, my relationships, my patients, my community and my life … Because I am me…

Today is like every other day.

With Love,

Me

Part 2
“Today is NOT Like Every Other Day”

Dear Me,

I wake up and go to work and receive 2 pieces of mail from the carriers refusing to pay my claim and a phone call from a lawyer who wants to cut my fee by 70%. The carriers are claiming that upon review there is no causal relationship because the car wasn’t damaged more. Therefore, the claims adjustor has independently denied my claim. The second correspondence is that the claim, which was sent with verification, is under review with no deadline on when it will be paid. The lawyer wants to cut my bill because he is greedy.

I get angry and call the carrier telling them they have to pay the claim and they stand by their denial and I don’t get paid. I then call the lawyer and not wanting to destroy a relationship, I accept the “unfair” offer playing the “long game,” hoping for a referral downstream and praying I will not be screwed again (I will). Basically, I made enough money to pay the bills and earn enough to just put me above the Walmart level of income and after years of sacrifice that aren't fair nor equitable, it is the path I have chosen.

Today is NOT like every other day because I choose it not to be.

The first thing I did was challenge the carrier in writing to produce the license of the person who made the medical determination or conclude if they themselves made the medical determination to NOT pay my claim. Upon no receipt, I rendered a complaint to the local authorities as well as those at the state level of the fraud that is being perpetrated against me. That is my right as a citizen in this great republic we call the United States to demand due process to protect those rights in spite of a bully (the carrier) breaking the law to keep the money that I have earned by playing according to the rules.

I then call the lawyer and inform him of my business policy on settlements of my liens and inform the lawyer of my rights (see above) based upon the contract he has; the lien or letter of protection that guarantees I get paid before he does. That is the law. In addition, I take away the lawyer's unfair ploy of taking his expenses off the top while mine are simply ignored. That is both unfair and wrong and I now have the power through my new training to level the playing field. Should the lawyer simply disperse the funds, I am rendering a complaint against his license, which is a violation usually followed by revocation of license. I play by the rules.

Today is NOT like every other day because I choose it not to be.

I now have less stress because I can pay the bills, cash my paycheck and feel good about what I do and that makes me happier in my business life, my personal life and about myself. I also choose to use this new-found wealth to help those who are less fortunate, either by giving raises to my staff or donating to the local food pantry, orphanage or any other social cause to make my world better because now I come from abundance that was gotten by fair exchange because I have always played by the rules and I am now getting others to play by those same rules.

Today is NOT like every other day because I choose it not to be.

With Love,

Me

Respectfully,
