From the Desk of Dr. Mark Studin

Preamble: many of these issues I bring are small, yet each issue is just that… an issue. If you take care of the small issues, then you will be able to build and focus on the larger issues… a larger, more profitable practice along with more family time.

“Get Paid Get Referrals”

I received the following questions via email today. Every question was addressed in the consultations and I usually ask, but did not have a chance to with this doctor…did you read all of the consultations? If so, you missed too much and are not getting paid like the others. Go back and re-read ALL OF THEM. If you didn’t read all of them, your laziness could have cost you $$millions in lost future revenue and…there's no fancy coding, you can prevent audits, get more time with your family and have less stress.

1.  USAA insurance cut my fees way down, wouldn't pay for certain procedures and stopped paying all together 2/3rds into the treatment.  Could I get a list of chiropractic procedure codes that get paid and when over the course of treatment I should use them?  No, do what you feel necessary and if you used evidence-based EMR Macros, many of these issues would go away

NOTE: I have talked about EMR Macros for years and how this system is one of the necessary things to do and the biggest change for 2016 to ensure payment. There is a reason why the average doctor in our program is making more money…lots more. The graph below shows how much more our doctors are making and although the bottom line is multifactorial, one of the core reasons is they use EMR Macros…You have to invest in your future (this is wayyyy inexpensive, but you don’t have time to scour the 1000’s of journals every month for the exact evidence required to bet paid) with tools to win!

Our doctors' salaries BEFORE learning the material

Our doctors' average % increase salary after learning the material

Under $100,000

61% increase

$100,000-$150,000

57% increase

Above $150,000

25% increase

2.  Could I get a list of the top ten ICD 10 billing codes you guys recommend? Again…NO, use what is clinically present, but do not limit the number of diagnoses you use. In the consults under narratives, I expanded this answer on suggested diagnosis.

NOTE: In part, this is a Colossus and compliance issue. You MUST read the narrative section to be as bulletproof as possible and understand all of the carriers' requirements through Colossus.

3.   I'm not charging for my report however; other doctors are charging $240.  Given the amount of time it takes me to generate a good report, would it be okay to charge for it? Again…this answer is in the consultations, but I do not charge, as a rule, to lawyers who refer to me…For those who don’t or never will, I charged $250 and you get to set your fees.

4.  Until I can afford an inclinometer, should I just estimate the ranges of motion?   NO, buy a handheld 2-piece inclinometer… they are inexpensive, but mandated in a personal injury case.

NOTE: This is non-negotiable and the only mandatory piece of equipment. Handheld inclinometers start at $98 on a Google search, although I would buy a better one. In addition, lawyers need ranges of motion in degrees to verify functional loss objectively. Again, handled extensively in the consultations.

Respectfully,
