"Plaintiff & Defense Lawyers are Being More Aggressive”
This past weekend I was the keynote speaker for a prominent Trial Lawyers Association meeting and as I always do, I get to the venue very early and stay late to listen to the other speakers. This gives me direct insight and an accurate education as to what is currently happening in the medical-legal world. Not from one lawyers perspective, but on a national scale as the speakers were from every corner of the country. Part of what I learned was how lawyers on both sides of the table use your CV’s.
First, without a CV you are invisible because that is the only vehicle a lawyer can use to credential you as an expert. Most lawyers (almost 100%) set up every case from the beginning as if they are going to trial and assume that settlement will take care of itself. A fatal flaw in their business model… however this is reality of what occurs from the best personal injury practices in the nation to the worst... and your CV is at the epicenter of that strategy.
During the meeting, one of the speakers who came from Florida and speaks in almost every state in the country brought with her one of her staff members. This staff member’s sole job is to take a doctors CV and research the validity of every entry. She then communicates with every sponsor of every course to see if the doctor accurately listed every entry on their CV. The staff member went on to explain that she then pulls all of the research citations and any other citation to see if the doctor reported publications, memberships and work experiences accurately.
This is what the defense (carrier’s lawyers) have been doing for years and now the plaintiff’s lawyers are doing the same. You are being scrutinized at the highest level and it is WONDERFUL!!!!!
I have looked at the US Chiropractic Directory closely over the last few weeks and when I look at your competition within the industry (other DC’s) you have virtually ZERO. Most doctors on the US Chiropractic Directory have NOT posted their CV’s primarily because most haven’t created them out of laziness and the rest of the profession is even worse… That is outstanding and a wonderful thing for those of you who created CV’s and then post them.
Lawyers live in the world of credentials, referring medical specialists and primary care providers live in the world of credentials and are checking you out...formally! Patients are checking you out as they want to go to the best doctors and are currently bypassing their managed care books and going directly to the Internet to find you and your credentials.
Today… You have to be in the game to play... and the ticket for entrance starts with your CV.
If you do not have one create it, if you do not have a preferred listing… It is $20 bucks per month… Could I have made it any cheaper?? DUH!!!!!!!!!! The CV builder is FREE!!!! DUHHH!!!!!!!
(I have more sarcasm…but I will save that for later.)
The first thing the new president of the Trial Lawyers Association did when introducing me this past weekend to the audience was cite my CV. I also have had doctors around the country excitedly explain that their CV has also opened so many unexpected “doors of opportunity” leading to their success.
Lawyers realize it, the medical community realizes it and your patients realize it…now the entire profession needs to embrace it at the level of respect those documents demand.
Again… You need a robust CV and I have given you the pathway to creating an admissible document… Create yours and continue to add to it.
