Preamble: Many of the issues I bring to you are very small, yet each issue is just that, an issue. If you take care of the small issues, then you will be able to build and more importantly, focus on the bigger issues...a larger practice and more family time.

“Cord Compression & Other Pathology”

In the images below, you can see 2 apparent compressions, however the axial slice is only through C5-6, so you can only conclusively see 1 compression. You also see in the axial slice, a broad based, central left herniation with uncinated hypertrophy. In the herniation, you can see high signal in both the herniation and Modic type 1 changes in the vertebrate above and below, indicating recent trauma. The Modic change is due to bone edema and the disc is the nuclear material coming out that is well hydrated.

This is 1 way to age-date herniations, along with symptomatology corroborating the injuries. In addition, the uncinated hypertrophy indicates this patient will have greater bodily injury with less physical trauma.
If you didn’t understand all of the above, you need to take the MRI Spine Interpretation course.
