Preamble: Many of the issues I bring to you are very small, yet each issue is just that, an issue. If you take care of the small issues, then you will be able to build and more importantly, focus on the bigger issues...a larger practice and more family time.

“The 61% Rule”

Why our doctors on average collect 61%* more after a few months in the program and sleep well at night

Simply… you must have a diagnosis for every body part treated.
Too many of you have a “righteous moment” after having been audited and then confess that you didn’t follow the rules followed by many sleepless nights. The outcome is often “payback” because if you didn’t follow this simple rule, you probably were lazy and omitted other critical components in your documentation.
1.  I am passionate about you not getting audited vs surviving an audit.
2.  I am passionate about you prevailing in every audit.
3.  I am passionate about you sleeping at night.
4.  I am passionate about you getting paid more money in fair exchange for services rendered.
5.  I am passionate about you telling a carrier to go F--- themselves after harassing you with a continual stream of requests looking for a technical flaw in your records to “line their pockets with gold.”
6.  I am passionate about you winning.
The solution is simple… Document well and create macros and other strategies to do so efficiently. I recommend Software Motiff (call Bill Owens 716-228-3847) as an EMR solution, but you can be successful with any electronic record as long as you customize it and do not let their defaults “screw you.” If you only use the software defaults in documentation, be prepared to LOSE in an audit. Too many have realized that if they followed the defaults, it wasn’t what they intended to do and NEVER bothered to look at the defaulted SOAP notes and evaluations prior to my request in an audit of their records.
If you use paper records, consider using our SOAP notes (free in the “forms” section of the consultations) and evaluation templates. They have prevailed in every audit our doctors have had to defend provided they are used properly.
Documentation is at best tedious and an art. Practice the art well and both get paid and sleep like a baby!!!!!
“Cheers” to a 61% increase in your take home pay!!!!!
