"P-IME's & Improper IME and Peer Review Rebuttals"
When meeting with the lawyer, make sure that you clearly communicate that you are expert in rebutting improper IME's. In every state, city and community, there are those IME "whores" who have been lying "all the way to the bank" at the expense of your patients, your reputation and your income. As always, I hold that I am fully in favor of a fair IME system based upon a complete set of facts and an honest evaluation. What I "rail" against are those doctors who have sold themselves out to make money on a foundation of lies. One doctor, in Buffalo, in a court testimony acknowledged that he makes over $800,000 yearly by only doing IME's. Therefore, there is a huge reason to make the carriers and IME companies happy.
Virtually NO doctor in practice responds to IME's and the ones that do usually render emotional arguments that always fall on deaf ears. You know better because you have been trained on how to take the emotion out of the argument and use the IME doctors' own words to indict them for falsifying reports though errors of admission or omission.
During your meetings with the lawyers, let them know that you have been trained in appropriately refuting improper IME's. IME doctors nationally have had their opinions overturned, lost their contracts with the carriers and had licensure issues as a result. Let them know that the P-IME includes this level of scrutiny and rebuttal of all IME reports for their clients should you perform a P-IME as part of your service to them. As always, the goal is to get them to understand that you are a well-credentialed expert who understands the process and will go to every length in an honest and ethical manner to expose the truth...but you refuse to accept "garbage" simply because the carrier paid someone for it.
