This is an easy one. When a personal injury patient misses an appointment, let his/her lawyer know. Involve the lawyer in the care of your patient. The attorney has a stake in the treatment of the patient and he/she will call the patient to tell him/her to not skip visits.
Now…I really don’t care about making the lawyer’s case; I care about getting the patient well. If it means that I use the lawyer as leverage for the patient to keep appointments, I will do it. The end result is that your patient will get better and the lawyer will be very happy that you gave him/her the opportunity to help the case. Everybody wins.
If you want to get the lawyer angry with you, simply don’t involve him/her in the process. It is not a good idea. Always keep everyone involved in the process.
