Nothing says I will never work with you again from a lawyer like your evaluation report [E&M] missing previous injuries or complaints of the affected area in a crash.

This may seem like common sense; however, the more outside medical records I review, it doesn’t seem like the other healthcare provider cares to gather this critical information or does not manage many personal injury cases to know better. Details of prior injuries will come into play on multiple fronts, such as when you submit your bills for payment.  They can also come into play a year or more after you have finished treating this patient and can haunt you and your accounts receivable if not correctly documented.

When it comes to settlement time on the patient’s case, the insurance company and defense attorney will use your lack of follow-through on collecting all pertinent information on the patient’s prior injuries to reduce your reimbursement, deny reimbursements on your bills, or create a nightmare for you and the plaintiff attorney during deposition or trial.
