Preamble: Many of the issues I bring to you are very small, yet each issue is just that, an issue. If you take care of the small issues, then you will be able to build and more importantly, focus on the bigger issues...a larger practice and more family time.

“Another MRI Radiology Miss”

The following MRI was reported as normal with a slight bulge at L5-S1 by the medical radiologist.

Here are the 2 problems:

1.  At L4-L5 there is a small, but quite visible annular-radial tear on the most posterior portion of the disc
2.  The slice at L5-S1 is not angled properly and catches too much of the inferior-anterior L5 endplate, thereby covering the posterior portion of the L5 disc on the axail view to make an accurate diagnosis.

This image must be re-done as there is something giong on at L5-S1 and short of guessing, an accurate diagnosis cannot be determined.

If you cannot follow this…you must take the MRIU course and further your education by spending time with Dr. Peyster in NY by doing the mini-fellowship in Neuroradiology, MRI Spine with him.

Respectfully,

Mark Studin DC, FASBE(C), DAAPM, DAAMLP
