Preamble: Many of the issues I bring to you are very small, yet each issue is just that, an issue. If you take care of the small issues, then you will be able to build and more importantly, focus on the bigger issues...a larger practice and more family time.

“Documenting Bruises”

Take pictures of all bruises and add them to your evaluations and narratives. I would add a comment in the history section and reference the photo’s attached. Please be very sensitive to bruising in compromising body parts and responsible in both taking and reporting them. Some pictures can only be shared with the lawyer (with your patients expressed permission) if they are of areas not normally exposed in public.

Be cognizant of having either a male or female in the room with you when doing so and check your state regulations on documenting such bruising and photographing patient’s injuries. Some states have very specific laws. However, over the years this has been a very powerful motivator for increased coverage and/or settlements based upon the evidentiary proof of the injury.
